Poingo is a magical new reading system that brings your child’s favorite characters to life with the touch of a “magic” pen.
The starter set includes the Poingo pen and two colorful and engaging books highlighting Disney/Pixar films: Cars and Finding Nemo. Poingo uses an infrared scanner to read the special books. Words, music, and sound all come to life with the touch of the special pen, which has two volume levels and automatically shuts itself off if not in use. The system also comes with ear buds which are handy for long car rides or any time you get tired of hearing the same story 9 million times.
Savvy Housewife has also favorably reviewed LeapFrog’s Tag reading system and recommends the Poingo system for younger beginning readers, ages 3 to 4. The books in the Poingo library are larger and hardback, making them sturdier for smaller (and more destructive) hands, while the books for LeapFrog’s Tag system are smaller and paperback and are better suited, I think, for kids ages 4 to 8. The Poingo library includes books such favorite characters as the Lion King, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty and Poingo books featuring Disney favorites Hannah Montana and High School Musical are coming soon.
Both my girls, ages 3 and 6, loved “reading” their Poingo books and playing the interactive games! Although my 6-year-old is a beginning reader and my preschooler is not yet reading, the Poingo books kept them both equally entertained and that garners a thumbs up from this mama.
Poingo retails for $34.99 on the official product website and is available at stores like Walmart (it’s featured in Walmart’s kids’ holiday book), Target, and Costco. It’s also available online at Amazon.com. It would make a great Christmas present for the preschooler on your list!
