I love children’s books with bright, simple illustrations so I was really pleased to be sent two of author and illustrator Leslie Patricelli’s latest children’s books, “Higher Higher!” and the baby board book “Baby Happy Baby Sad.”
Although my girls are really “too grown up” (sniff) for the familiar and comforting simplicity of baby board books, they both loved the fun illustrations in “Baby Happy Baby Sad.” I found the story behind “Higher Higher!” about a little girl’s imagination gone wild (hello outerspace) to be quite endearing, too. I mean what adult doesn’t remember the thrill of swinging at the playground and imagining that they could soar to the highest of heights?
Patricell’s books are published by Candlewick Press and her board book series (seven altogether) features the same diaper-clad baby and feature such titles as “Yummy YUCKY,” “No NO Yes Yes,” and “BIG Little, Quiet LOUD.”
I always like to give new moms a book to add to their baby’s library and any of Leslie Patricelli’s titles would be a wonderful gift idea.
