I’m a big fan of LeapFrog products for kids. My oldest daughter is now 7 and I still remember her music activity table by LeapFrog that both she and her little sister learned to pull up on. It provided hours of entertainment for them!
Now we’ve moved on to products for older kids. My 4 1/2 year old loves the Tag reader. LeapFrog has recently introduced Learn to Read Book Sets for ages 4 to 7. These are great preparation for kindergarten and I know my younger daughter will have a bit of a jump start when she starts next fall thanks to her LeapFrog Learn to Read sets.
The LeapFrog Learn to Read Set 1 focuses on short vowels, while Set 2 vocuses on long vowels, the silent e and the silent y. Each book in the Learn to Red sets feature three modes:
- Spell it! Touch letters with the special Tag pen to hear how words are spelled.
- Say it! Touch a word to hear it read out loud.
- Sound it! Touch letters to hear them sounded out phonetically.
My 4-year-old enjoys working on her own special “homework” while my 2nd grader works on hers. The Tag book sets keep her busy and occupied while I help her older sister out.
LeapFrog has a second product geared toward prepping your child for school. The new Let’s Go to School DVD focuses on essential preschool skills like phonics, counting, days of the week, and animals. The DVD has a running time of 35 minutes and also features cute sing-along songs. It’s currently on sale at Amazon.com for $9.99 and would make a great addition to your child’s DVD collection.
