Healthy Habits Kids Plate Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Child — admin at 2:04 pm on Friday, May 30, 2008

Karen R., who commented, “What a cute plate! Rylee loves mashed potatoes and corn but we plan to expand on that soon,” is the winner! Thanks to everyone for entering.

I remember sitting in a dark kitchen, the dishwasher humming in the background, while my mother waited for me to eat my broccoli. Some things never change. I have a difficult time getting my girls to eat their veggies. Today’s kids, especially, are bombarded with slick advertising campaigns for sugary treats. To sweeten the pot, so to speak, they’re often pimped by their favorite TV characters. I mean how can my girls resist Barbie or Hello Kitty Pop-Tarts?

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about one-third of all U.S. children are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight.

Stay-at-home mom Amy Roskelley developed the Healthy Habits Kids Plate to encourage other parents to make healthy eating simple and fun. Amy has a degree in health education and worked for the Utah Health Department for eight years prior to becoming a mom. The Healthy Habits Kids Plate, which retails for $5.99, is divided into three sections. Cartoon fruits, vegetables, breads, meat, and dairy products are arranged in the portions that your child should eat.

Visit www.superhealthykids.com for healthy eating ideas and to order plates. My girls love their plate and it encourages discussion at the dinner table about healthy foods. It’s 100% melamine, making it kid proof and dishwasher safe.

For a chance to win a Healthy Habits Kids plate, comment on this post and tell me your child’s favorite fruits or vegetable. For two entries, subscribe to the Savvy Housewife RSS Feed (see the handy button in the upper right hand corner of the blog.) A random winner will be chosen from all eligible comments (U.S. residents only) left by midnight Friday, June 6.

Be sure to visit Amy’s blog chronicling her family’s journey to becoming a super healthy family, where she features a question of the week on Thursdays.

Well, believe it or not…all three of my girls favs are stuffed artichokes…
I sent the youngest with one in her lunch bag one day, and there was not one child at her lunch table that even knew what it was!
For fruits…I’d say Strawberries!

My boys love broccolli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts… this amazed me…. but they shunned the peas and corn most kids loved.

What a cute idea! I’m already subscribed to you, so there :-)

Let’s see: princess and Monkey are both addicted to oranges and grapes and they both love baby carrots and artichokes.

My kids’ fave veggie is asparagus. We grow in wild and it’s in season right now so we’ve been having it nightly!! I also grow strawberries so that would be our fave fruit. Thanks!!

I love those little divided plates. John M. likes broccoli, corn, and cucumbers. Anna loves green beans. Emma likes broccoli too! Imagine that, because their mama can’t stand it.

Peas are the definite winner in the vegetable department. In fact I think he’d rather eat peas than any fruit. Although he finally came around to bananas, thank goodness. What 1-year-old rejects bananas?

Great plate! I would love to try it! Of course, if I win won I would have to buy another one, since I have two kids. :-)
My kids love brocolli, bananas, strawberries, corn on the cob and a few others.

Hmmm, my son is such a picky eater and it drives me crazy but anyway I would say green beans for the vegetable and watermelon for the fruit. Thank you for your giveaway!

I didn’t even realize you had this site all up and running!!! What I’ve been missing, I tell ya!

Anyway, Goosey loves corn on the cob (part starch, part veggie, right?) and any fruit. She likes most veggies too. Lulu is tougher with the veggies. Sometimes green beans. She loves grapes, strawberries, and apples!
