When I was little one of my favorite toys was a set of small fashion designer plastic plates that came with colored pencils that I could use to trace over for sketches for my own line of clothing.
Today’s little girls are growing up online and there is a fun new website for budding fashionistas founded by a mom with a passion for sewing called Fashion Playtes, which allows girls to design their own clothing, from dresses to hoodies, order them, and actually wear their creations! They can even design their own personalized clothing label to appear on their clothes. This is one of those fantastic ideas that makes me think, “Why didn’t I think of that!”
The website is very easy to navigate and my 7-year-old absolutely loved the concept, from selecting the fabric for her long-sleeve style Cassidy dress to choosing what sort of decorative trim she wanted. After opening a Fashion Playtes account (with parental permission), your child can save their creations in their “collection” online.
From the founder Sarah, a mom who grew up helping her mom make creations at her sewing machine, “I’d like to offer girls the chance to create something unique and build their confidence and self-esteem in the process. Our business offers tween girls an opportunity to design clothing and have it produced to wear at a reasonable price.”
This is such a cute concept and a fun way to encourage creativity in your daughter. Fashion Playtes offers gift certificates, which would make a great gift this holiday season. My only complaint is that the sizes start at size 6/6x, too small for my 4-year-old, but she still got in on the fun by creating her own backpack!

Oooh, I love the Cassidy swing dress/tunic design. I can see making multiples of that design for my two girls.
The Cassidy (long sleeved dress) or The Hannah (hoodie) would be so fun to design. I KNOW my daughter would be all over this. She already likes to design outfits on her own with just pencil and paper. This would be the bees knees for her!
