Digital Scrapbook Artist Software Review

Filed under: Savvy Technology — admin at 5:37 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2008

I jumped on the scrapbooking crazy train when my husband and I got married in 1997. I have a beautiful scrapbook documenting our Key West honeymoon. After I had my oldest daughter in 2002, though, I discovered the world of digital scrapbooking, which has all the features of paper scrapbooking, but is minus all the mess and boundless supplies to organize and store.

Serif’s new Digital Scrapbook Artist software would be a great present for someone who is interested in digital scrapbooking. Scrapbook Artist comes with DaisyTrail DigiKits, fun themed content packs, full of layouts, backgrounds, embellishments, materials, photo frames, and decorative letters. I found the software incredibly easy to use and was able to create a scrapbook page using the kits in less than 15 minutes. You can also design your own scrapbook items.

The software also has a companion web-based scrapbooking community at www.daisytrail.com where you can share the layouts you’ve created. Once you register (for free) at the site, you’ll also receive two free digikits. To get your started, however, Serif Digital Scrapbook comes with a DaisyTrail DigiKit DVD.

Other features of the Digital Scrapbook Artist software include:

  • Choice of 8”x8”, letter-size or 12”x12” pages
  • Photo paintbrushes
  • Decorative edge scissor cut out tool
  • Filter effects for every object
  • One-click sharing to post designs for others to see
  • 10 free themed digikits

Digital Scrapbook Artist retails for $39.99 and would make a great present for someone interested in learning more about digital scrapbooking. Savvy Housewife readers get $5 off their purchase of Digital Scrapbook Artist from Serif using the code DSAUSPR05 at checkout.

AT&T Cordless Phone Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Household, Savvy Technology — admin at 2:07 pm on Monday, October 6, 2008

April G., who commented, “The cordless headset would make multitasking easier!,” is the winner! Thanks to everyone who entered and please be sure to check out the new giveaways I post on Mondays.

We’ve been testing out the new AT&T SL82218 cordless phone system at our house for about two weeks. I love the sleek design and the large blue lighted display (I’m almost 40 and I need that extra little lighting feature!) The voicemail system has an alert that beeps quietly (no obnoxious beeping to drive you crazy) to let you know you have a voicemail message waiting. I especially like this feature, because it reminds me to check our voicemail when I get in for the day, which is something I’m not so great about doing.

The AT&T SL82218 is a dual-handset cordless answering system using DECT 6.0 digital technology, which has been in use for a number of years in Europe. DECT 6.0 technology is a newly available frequency band that provides improved range without needing to boost the power. The sound quality on these new DECT models is superior to existing 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz models on the market and enables the user to talk anywhere in their home or office without interference from a wireless network. With state-of-the-art antenna technology for maximum clarity and range, the phone has been proven to provide an additional 45 percent of open field talk range and a 15 percent better in-home calling range than its competitors.

Some other features of this new phone/answering system from AT&T include:

50 name/number directory

Call transfer

Headset compatible

Wireless-network friendly

50 name/number caller ID history

Intercom

Conferencing (for multi-handset systems)

Savvy Housewife has a new AT&T SL82218 (retail value $69.99) to give away to one lucky reader! Simply visit AT&T’s online store, take a look around, and come back to this post and leave a comment about which of their products appeals to you. A random winner will be chosen from all eligible comments left by midnight Wednesday, October 15 (U.S. addresses only.)

Image Doctor 2 Photo Retouching Software Saves Time, And Photos

Filed under: Savvy Technology — admin at 9:26 am on Tuesday, September 30, 2008

My mother has hundreds of old family photos that are simply priceless. There are so many memories captured on film from when she and my dad got married in the 1950s and bought their first little home in Michigan to photos of my grandmother and her siblings during the Great Depression. Of course these are all from the pre-digital age and the photos are beginning to fade. Some have been bent or torn through the years. Some are from the Polaroid craze of the early 1970s and have really begun to lose color quality.

Image Doctor 2 from Alien Skin Software is a great restoration software that helps you restore old photos by fixing rips or scratches; retouch new photos by removing a mole, tattoo, scar or other blemish from a portrait; remove unwanted objects from your photos, and repair low-quality JPEG images. Do you need to give yourself a little PhotoShop facelift? Image Doctor 2 features a skin softening filter.

It’s great for Photoshop users (and a host of other programs) and will shave off hours of retouch time. Image Doctor 2 is a plug-in that is compatible on both Windows and Macintosh.

Image Doctor 2 retails for $199. Click here to purchase from the official website.
