Kim at Hormone Colored Days has written an interesting post about the worth of mommy bloggers: Mommy bloggers are hot? Blog it while it’s hot sisters!

Leeanthro at Soy is The New Black has launched an amazing blog fundraising and awareness effort for Juvenile Diabetes. Her 4-year-old daughter was just diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. There are some great prizes and it’s all for a very worthy cause so please check it out as she prepares to participate in the Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes. Her fundraising effort ends September 15, so do stop by and read her story.

Filed under: Savvy Sites and Links — admin at 9:10 am on Saturday, July 19, 2008

Who says file folders and mousepads must be boring utilitarian and uninspiring?

Galison makes beautiful office supplies (and I do love me some purty office supplies) that will make your workspace sing, whether it’s a swank corner executive suite, a compact cubicle, or just the corner of your breakfast bar.

To celebrate the 4th anniversary of the Galison blog, they’re having a giveaway. Check out some of the desk bling:

Just visit the Galison blog giveaway post by July 31 to enter and be prepared for me to sulk if you win the Gali-swag, and I don’t.

Happy 4th of July!

Filed under: Savvy Sites and Links, Savvy Swag — admin at 9:10 am on Friday, July 4, 2008

Happy 4th of July! I’ve posted the second of four Four For The Fourth giveaways at my other site, BlondeMomBlog. Ultreo.com and TinyTagDesigns giveaways will be posted tomorrow.

Last night hubby took the girls to Red Robin for the first time. I had plans and then met them just in time to share a hot fudge sundae. They loved it and kept stalking the “Red Rooster.” Ha! I was impressed with their kids menu. Miss A actually chose fresh cantaloupe to go with her pepperoni pizza. I remember when some restaurants offered free kids’ meals, but it seems like most chains, like O’Charley’s, have done away with them.

So what are your plans for the day? We may go to a community celebration and we’re going to grill out at home (although right now it looks like it may rain) and just relax.

Your Savvy July 4th Guide

Filed under: Savvy Child, Savvy Eats and Drinks, Savvy Holidays, Savvy Sites and Links, Savvy Wear — admin at 7:08 am on Friday, June 27, 2008

July 4th will be here before you know it. Savvy Housewife has pulled together the best Web guide to guarantee your holiday will be festive, stress free, and fun.

Throwing a backyard bash? Here are some links to get you inspired:

Send out invites via Pingg.com, a new online event management and invitation site featuring stylish, swanky invites (no corny clip art here)

Recipes, craft ideas, printables, and how to videos from Family Fun magazine.

Fireworks art project from ParentsConnect (great for kids age 3 and up)

Martha’s July 4th how-tos.

Patriotic Party Menu from Kraft Foods.

This red, white, and blue ice cream cake from Epicurious looks absolutely divine.

Festive Starfruit Cocktail Garnishes and Fun 4th Of July Cocktails from Hostess Blog.

These glory dishtowels from Crate and Barrel would be a lovely hostess gift.

Now that you’re set on food and drink, you need something to wear. At some point you outgrow your mother’s whim to deck you out like Old Glory for the 4th, but it’s still a great excuse to shop.

These twirly tutus from Etsy seller Zoes Couture Boutiqe are perfect for your little Miss Firecracker.

Patriotic Posies hair clips from Etsy seller Cute And Sweet are just that

I love this fun and funky capri set from CWD Kids.

A hippy dippy tie-dyed t-shirt is great for boys too cool to dress like Uncle Sam.

This crab crate navy T-shirt is also a good color scheme for boys reticent to deck out for the 4th.

These star espadrilles for girls are on sale at CWD Kids and make me long to be little.

Baby sister would make a splash in this patriotic bikini and at what other point in a girl’s life will she look stunning in stripes?

This smocked bandana print top from Old Navy screams summer, not Yankee Doodle Dandy.

An understated red and navy striped button down for Dad will carry him through cool summer evenings.

Don’t forget the classic navy sundress (like this one from J Crew).

Sex And The City: Eat, Drink, And Be Fabulous

Filed under: Savvy Sites and Links — admin at 7:42 am on Friday, June 20, 2008

From the London premiere May 13.

I finally went to see Sex and the City Monday night and loved it (more about that at my other blog.)

Here are a few fun links Savvy Housewife found:

Read the scoop on the decor behind the movie set and the blue wall color in Carrie’s revamped East end apartment post-Big big breakup.

Apartment Therapy has an interesting post about the color traditional “HBO green” in SATC.

The July issue of Traditional Home magazine has a feature of the movie set decor as well. Hat tip, Apartment Therapy.

Here’s a link to a fun Vogue Diaries video of Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth doing a NYC (but of course) photo shoot for the June issue.

Product placement is serious business in SATC. Vanity Fair had a roundup.

Real Simple featured some fun Cosmo recipes. Amy and I had pear Cosmos Monday at dinner and they were fabulous.

The Cosmopolitan was made popular by SATC, but actually has its origins in South Beach, Miami.

Finally, feeling a little sassy? These cocktail napkins from Martini Art are hilarious.

Pimping Miss Daisy Left and Right

Filed under: Savvy Sites and Links — admin at 10:04 pm on Tuesday, June 10, 2008

I want to give a special shout out to Daisy Olsen who tweaked this site for me. The comments were stacking themselves in a most bizarre like fashion and I was completely clueless as to how to fix it. Daisy also added some newfangled social bookmarking bling bling, widgets, buttons, whatever you want to call them, to both this site and my main squeeze mommy blog.

I freaked out when I saw the comments glitch and fired off a desperate e-mail. Karla, one of the blog divas behind Blissfully Domestic, was kind enough to refer me to Daisy, who should not be confused with any character on Little House on the Prairie.

Here’s a little bio from Daisy:

Daisy Olsen loves all things WordPress and can be found tweaking several blogs simultaneously at any given time. She enjoys working as a blog consultant and as a freelancer creating Microsoft Office templates. Sometimes she manages to find time do some blogging herself. You can find her at www.DaisyOlsen.com or on Twitter (http://twitter.com/DaisyOlsen)

I also want to give a shout out to Jennifer at GeeksMakeMeHot, as she developed the Daisy Rae Gemini WordPress theme this blog and BlondeMomBlog are based on (I did design the swanky retro mama banner here and the photo montage banner at BMB.) Yes, I could have contacted Jennifer for help, but she had literally just given birth the day I needed help. Congrats Mama Jennifer!

My Kingdom For A Dyson

Filed under: Savvy Sites and Links — admin at 9:59 pm on Monday, June 2, 2008

We have two dogs who definitely give our house that lived in, well-loved ambience. Jack is the MOFO shedding variety (part Akita.) He is gorgeous. He is red. He is a giant walking fur ball. Oh, and we have another rescue dog, Bailey, who is part Corgi part German Shepherd. She was our first “baby” when we got married 11 years ago.

Exhibit A and B on a “good fur day,” meaning Jack had recently shed his coat and I used it to stuff 485 throw pillows. Also, you can clearly tell who the alpha dog is around here.

An Ordinary Life is hosting a giveaway for the new Dyson DC25 (valued at $499…be still my anal retentive heart.) Click here for details on how to enter (giveaway closes June 25.) If you win, however, be forewarned as I may stalk you.

So do you have a Dyson? What do you think about it? Would you recommend it? We have a Dirt Devil Vision, which has actually held up very well under heavy use.

I Love ‘Em Big and Glossy

Filed under: Savvy Sites and Links — admin at 5:17 pm on Sunday, June 1, 2008

Although I am a big fan of online media, I love magazines. There’s something fun about going to the mailbox and pulling out a thick new glossy magazine to browse through.

I love home magazines especially. My mother shares several magazines with me, including Southern Living (which is one of my all time favorite magazines) and last night I curled up in bed with the new Hallmark Magazine that had arrived while we were on family vacation in the Florida Panhandle (sigh…I am still missing the beach breeze). My Saturday nights are pretty exciting, eh?

I recently signed up for a free subscription to Hallmark Magazine as part of Amy Allen Clark’s Freebie Friday feature on Mom Advice. One of my favorite parts of Hallmark Magazine is the 4-Ingredient Challenge, which highlights reader submissions. I also love Real Simple magazine.

Southern Living, in my opinion, is a must read once you are a mortgage-payin’, grocery shoppin’, domestic diva in training. Some of my favorite recipes, such as this chicken and wild rice casserole, have come straight from its pages. I’ve even toured Brenthaven, Southern Living’s 2000 Idea House, which was built here in Middle Tennessee. The wall color in my dining room was inspired by the Idea House.

What are your favorite must-read home magazines?
