Hot Holiday Toys And A Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Child, Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Holidays — admin at 8:56 am on Friday, November 28, 2008

Hasbro has been making holiday wishes come true for years. We’re already well schooled in all that is My Little Pony at our house, so when they offered Savvy Housewife and her chicklets a chance to review some of their hottest holiday gift ideas for 3 to 6-year-old girls we were very excited.

Here’s an overview of some of Hasbro’s hottest toys for the little girls on your Christmas and holiday gift list:

Baby Alive Learns to Potty

Miss A has been declaring “I want that mommy!” every time she sees Baby Alive on TV. This doll is a 3-year-old’s dream. Little girls can play mommy by feeding Baby Alive, giving her a bottle, and then Baby Alive gives the pee or poop alert. Some day they will no longer get a kick out of sitting their kid on the potty, but for 3-year-olds this is mega entertainment. Four AA batteries are included (which is nice considering the times we’ve macheted our way into a box on Christmas morning only to realize we need to forage for batteries.) (Retails for $59.99)

Furreal Friends Tumbles, My Rollover Pup

My 6-year-old saw Tumbles recently at Target and went crazy over him. He’s an adorable puppy that comes to life when you scratch his tummy. He loves to be petted and the special sensors in his back trigger cute puppy noises. This is one puppy you won’t mind under the tree Christmas morning. (Retails for $39.99)

My Little Pony Jumbo 25th Anniversary Pinkie Pie Plush

This stuffed Pinkie Pie toy is so adorable it’s not funny. My girls love playing with her and carrying her everywhere. She’s a large size toy and soft and huggable. If you have My Little Pony fans at your house and are looking for something other than the play sets, this would be a definite hit. (Retails for $19.99)

My Little Pony Original 1983 Collection

These ponies are made to resemble the exact ponies that little girls played with in 1983. Each set comes with three retro ponies and three combs. These would be a great addition to your MLP collection for less than $20. (Retails for $14.99)

Cherry Blossom Market

This is so darn cute that I’m saving it for Christmas morning. I love toys that encourage imaginative play and I can’t wait for my girls to play with this cute toy market. The cash register has a real working drawer, makes a mechanical “ding,” and has a slot for kids to practice swiping their plastic. I love that it’s lightweight and easy to move from room to room. (Retails for $59.99) Playskool’s Cherry Blossom Market also comes with two additional play sets: the produce stand set (retails for $19.99) and a cute food assortment ($14.99).

Turbo Tooth Tunes

Your kids will never turn down your request to brush their teeth again. Featuring fun music from such kid centric hits like High School Musical, Hannah Montana, and The Jonas Brothers, the Turbo Tooth Tunes toothbrush encourages two minutes of brushing, which is the amount of time generally recommended by dentists. These fun toothbrushes feature patented Denta-Mandibular technology which transmits songs and music vibrations from the bristles, through the teeth, to the inner ear. (Retails for $9.99)

Tooth Tunes Jr.

Designed for kids ages 3 and up these adorable toothbrushes made for little hands play one minute of preschool-friendly music and encouraging phrases to motivate little ones to brush their teeth. (Retails for $9.99)

Want to win a fun stocking stuffer? Savvy Housewife is giving away one Turbo Tooth Tunes toothbrush and one Tooth Tunes Jr. toothbrush. Simply leave a comment on this post telling me which product you would like to win. For an extra entry either blog about this giveaway or promote it via Twitter (but do leave a comment telling me you’ve Tweeted it.) Two random winners will be chosen from all eligible comments left by midnight Friday, December 5.

CLR Cleaner Review and Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Household — admin at 10:53 am on Monday, November 24, 2008

The winners of the CLR Cleaner Giveaway are Karen A. and Kathleen Debernardi. You’ll be receiving an e-mail from me shortly. Thanks to everyone who entered!

I hate cleaning the bathroom but since the household cleaning fairy has yet to show up at my house, it’s up to me.

CLR recently sent me a bottle of their bathroom and kitchen cleaner to try out and I went to work on our bathtub. As you can see, it did a great job of cutting through the soap scum and leftover residue from our dogs’ recent spa experience in our bathtub.

Before:

After:

CLR Bathroom and Kitchen Cleaner is great for multi-tasking since it’s useful on a variety of surfaces. Plus it has earned the EPA’s Designed for the Environment designation; it contains no phosphates, ammonia, or bleach to harm you or your family.

Want to try CLR household cleaners? This would be great if you’re about to go on a cleaning rampage to get your house ready for holiday guests. I suggest cranking some really great music while cleaning and rewarding yourself with a nice glass of wine when the deed is done. Especially if cleaning under the toilet bowl rim is part of the agenda.

Savvy Housewife is giving away two cleaning buckets full of cleaning products, courtesy of CLR!

Each bucket includes:
- One bottle of CLR Bath & Kitchen
- One bottle of CLR
- One bottle of CLR Septic Treatment and Drain Care
- One pair of cleaning gloves
- Two sponges

For a chance to win one of two cleaning buckets filled with CLR household cleaning products, simply leave a comment on this post about your least favorite room of the house to clean.

For an extra entry in the giveaway, either link to this giveaway from your blog or mention it on Twitter (be sure to leave a second comment here if you Tweet about it). Two winners will be chosen using Random.org from all comments left by midnight Monday, December 1 (U.S. residents only). Thanks and good luck!

Ojolie.com Giveaway: Delightful, Artistic Ecards

Filed under: Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Holidays — admin at 11:22 am on Monday, November 17, 2008

I’m the queen of procrastination so ecards are a convenient way for me to send cards for special occasions and holidays. Most mass produced ecards are pretty uninspiring, though. That was until I had the opportunity to review a wonderfully unique ecard website, Ojolie.com.

Launched two years ago by artist Fredericke Tu, Ojolie.com features beautiful artwork and music. Fredericke is a mother to two young sons, ages 7 and 5, and draws much of her inspiration for the artwork featured on her lovely cards from nature and wildlife. The passion and excitement for her artwork truly shows through the cards she designs. She is also a talented photographer.

Ojolie.com offers a growing selection of animated, artistic ecards with tasteful music. Incorporating hand-painted elements, the characters take on a life of their own to delight with music, dance and animation. All the ecards are a labor of love. Check out this whimsical Thanksgiving day e-card. Be sure to browse through the gorgeous animated Christmas cards at Ojolie.com (I love the Snow Globe card!)

Membership fees for Ojolie.com are just $10 a year and enable you to send 12 to 18 ecards per year. No more paper waste, no more searching for a stamp, and your friends and family will enjoy receiving a little piece of art in their Inbox.

Savvy Housewife is giving away three memberships to Ojolie.com! Simply visit Ojolie.com and leave a comment here telling me which ecard is your favorite. A random winner will be selected from all comments left by midnight Monday, November 24. For an extra entry, please either link to my giveaway on your own blog or follow me on Twitter!

Build-A-Bear Gift Card Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Child, Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Holidays — admin at 4:33 pm on Monday, November 10, 2008

We have a winner! Liz H., who commented “My daughter would love the Chilly Cheeks Penguin! So cute,” is the winner of the Build-A-Bear $25 gift card. Thanks to everyone who entered and be sure to enter the current giveaway for three one-year memberships to artistic ecard site, Ojolie.com.

Christmas has officially arrived at the Build-A-Bear Workshop!

I took my girls to Build-A-Bear for the first time earlier this year and it was every little girls’ fantasy come true with fashion, stuffed animals, shopping, and a trip to the big mall all rolled into one. They left with a poodle and a pink cheetah kitty, all blinged out and dressed to kill.

Build-A-Bear has an amazingly cute holiday line for 2008 and we were lucky enough to receive two of the newest plush toys: Hal and Holly Moose. My 6-year-old loved Holly so much that she took her to school last week for “Fun Friday.”

This adorable duo would be welcomed by your Build-A-Bear fan. Hal’s antlers even light up if you squeeze his hand. The Holly and Hal Moose storybook gift set, which includes both stuffed toys and a new holiday book, Holly and Hal Moose: Our Uplifting Christmas Adventure, is available for $36. You can also purchase Holly or Hal individually for just $18 each, but you know you’ll want to deck them out in Christmas finery.

Want to win a $25 gift card to Build-A-Bear (which would make a fabulous stocking stuffer)? Simply take a look at the 2008 Build-A-Bear Workshop Christmas line and leave a comment here about your favorite item by midnight Monday, November 17. For an extra entry, link to this post or comment on a post at my main squeeze mama blog, BlondeMomBlog.com. A random winner will be chosen from all entries (U.S. residents only.) We have a winner! Mary Jenkins, who commented “My daughter would like the margarita lime sak wih papillon!” is the winner of the Douglas Toys giveaway. Thanks to everyone who entered!

It must be in the water. Five, yes five, of my co-workers are pregnant and they are all first-time moms! My office is throwing a baby shower this Friday for the first of the five mamas to blow and because her nursery decor is a jungle theme, I’m giving her two adorable soft giraffe toys from Douglas plush toys: the sweet musical stuffed giraffe that plays Rock A Bye Baby and the incredibly soft Giraffe Sshlumpie with satin footpads. The Sshlumpie blankets are unique to Douglas Toys and are currently offered with a “twofer” special where you get 10 % off the purchase of the same item which is great in those horrific lost lovey situations.

My August giveaway for Douglas toys was such a big hit that they’re sponsoring another giveaway this week from their sweet infant line! For a chance to win one free product of your choice from the Douglas Toys plush baby line, simply visit their website and then leave a comment back at this post with your favorite product. Family Meal Planner Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Eats and Drinks, Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Recipes — admin at 9:00 am on Monday, October 27, 2008

What’s for dinner? It’s the question that never dies.

Mompreneuer Lindsay Siebert has taken the work out of meal planning for busy moms with the creation of her My Family Meal Planner in October 2006. Lindsay has experience as a daycare provider and was already familiar with USDA requirements in planning balanced meals so she turned her meal plans into a helpful spiral bound book. She’s now developed a second My Family Meal Planner book, which includes a crockpot meal every week. I can’t wait to try the crockpot meal recipes this fall and winter. Organized by month and by day, Lindsay has also included an extremely helpful grocery list section which coincides with each weekly menu in the planner.

The latest in the meal planner books, My Family Meal Planner Light, was released this fall. All meals are 500 calories or less, which is a great option for so many of us eyeing the skinny jeans.

Want to win your own Family Meal Planner along with a helpful magnetic meal planner grocery list for your refrigerator? Visit the Family Meal Planner website and then come back and leave a comment on this post by midnight Saturday, November 1, telling me which planner you’d like to win. A random winner will be selected from all comments (U.S. residents only); please make sure you leave a valid e-mail address so I can contact you. I’ll announce the Bloggy Giveaways fall carnival winner on Sunday.

Spongebob Squarepants DVD Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Child, Savvy Giveaways — admin at 7:17 pm on Friday, October 17, 2008

Commentor #3, Sandy, is the winner of the SpongeBob DVD. Thanks to everyone for entering the giveaway!

Parents fall into one of two SpongeBob camps: the lovers and the haters. Personally my husband and I love SpongeBob, although I came very close to banning SpongeBob during the recent Sponge “boob” incident at my house.

Nickelodeon Home Entertainment released Spongebob Squarepants WhoBob What Pants October 14 on DVD and it’s 78 minutes of classic Bikini Bottom goodness.

Here’s the lowdown on the episodes featured on the DVD:

What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?
SpongeBob leaves Bikini Bottom, gets amnesia and finds himself Mayor of New Kelp City! When Sandy, Patrick, Mr. Krabs and Squidward finally find him, will SpongeBob return to his old life with these “strangers” or remain in the city where he’s a hero?

Goo Goo Gas
In his latest attempt to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula, Plankton turns everyone inside the Krusty Krab

The Two Faces of Squidward
When Squidward breaks his face, his resulting look is so handsome he becomes all the rage in Bikini Bottom!

SpongeHenge
The strong winds whipping through SpongeBob’s pores are creative beautiful music. Everyone knows music attracts jellyfish, and this time is no exception.

Banned in Bikini Bottom
The United Organization of Fish Against Things Fun and Delicious has banned Krabby Patties

Stanley
Cousin Stanley comes to live with SpongeBob and find his purpose in life. But it’s tough to find when practically everything you touch goes up in smoke. Literally.

One lucky Savvy Housewife reader will win this fun new DVD from Nickelodeon Family Entertainment. Simply visit the official Spongebob website and come back to this post and tell me your favorite character from Bikini Bottom. For two chances, blog about this giveaway. A random winner will be drawn from all eligible comments left by midnight Friday, October 24.

DVD release, A Tale of Tails, which came out September 23 and includes eight fun-filled episodes from season one. AT&T Cordless Phone Giveaway

Filed under: Savvy Giveaways, Savvy Household, Savvy Technology — admin at 2:07 pm on Monday, October 6, 2008

April G., who commented, “The cordless headset would make multitasking easier!,” is the winner! Thanks to everyone who entered and please be sure to check out the new giveaways I post on Mondays.

We’ve been testing out the new AT&T SL82218 cordless phone system at our house for about two weeks. I love the sleek design and the large blue lighted display (I’m almost 40 and I need that extra little lighting feature!) The voicemail system has an alert that beeps quietly (no obnoxious beeping to drive you crazy) to let you know you have a voicemail message waiting. I especially like this feature, because it reminds me to check our voicemail when I get in for the day, which is something I’m not so great about doing.

The AT&T SL82218 is a dual-handset cordless answering system using DECT 6.0 digital technology, which has been in use for a number of years in Europe. DECT 6.0 technology is a newly available frequency band that provides improved range without needing to boost the power. The sound quality on these new DECT models is superior to existing 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz models on the market and enables the user to talk anywhere in their home or office without interference from a wireless network. With state-of-the-art antenna technology for maximum clarity and range, the phone has been proven to provide an additional 45 percent of open field talk range and a 15 percent better in-home calling range than its competitors.

Some other features of this new phone/answering system from AT&T include:

50 name/number directory

Call transfer

Headset compatible

Wireless-network friendly

50 name/number caller ID history

Intercom

Conferencing (for multi-handset systems)

Savvy Housewife has a new AT&T SL82218 (retail value $69.99) to give away to one lucky reader! Simply visit AT&T’s online store, take a look around, and come back to this post and leave a comment about which of their products appeals to you. A random winner will be chosen from all eligible comments left by midnight Wednesday, October 15 (U.S. addresses only.)
